Fresh Beat Band!

Saturday we're driving more than four hours to take you to see the Fresh Beat Band. You LOVE them (especially Kiki) and are so excited to see them "Live in Concert". Every time they play a song on TV, you jump up and start dancing and singing. Dad and I look at each other behind your back and tell each other - just with our eyes - how awesome and cute we think you are. We're headed to the concert on Saturday, but we're actually telling you that we're not going until next Saturday. Hopefully the delayed date will dampen the anticipation and you'll be able to get a good sleep the night before. And, we just got a cool star glo-stick for you to use at the concert! I hope it's all that you're hoping it's going to be...I'll post some pictures for you after we get home. Have a great time, love bug!

TONIGHT the Tooth Fairy is Visiting OUR House!

Well, tonight it finally happened. You lost your TOOTH! And you're so excited about it, which is super fun for Dad and me. You were just sitting there, watching your TV show before bed, and you said, "Mommy, I sure wish my tooth would fall out tonight. Look - I can push it backwards now!" So I told you that when we went to the bathroom to brush your teeth, I 'd check out the tooth and see what I could do.

As luck would have it, I was able to turn the tooth around...but I just couldn't get a strong enough grasp to pull it out! So I ran upstairs to get a pair of my jewelry pliers. The little pliers fit perfectly, and the tooth pulled out easily. A little blood, but no pain. I wish we'd have taken a video because the expression on your face was priceless.

I am so excited for you - you were SO proud that your tooth came out! And I can't wait to see what the Tooth Fairy brings to you tonight...I love you, little girl.

Valentine's Day

Well, you STILL haven't lost that tooth, but it sure is loose! I can't believe it's hanging on...but hanging it is. Every day you wiggle it and wiggle it and try to make it fall out. You're hoping that the tooth fairy will bring you a toy (a car, truck or plane) and were a bit disappointed when I told you that I only remember the tooth fairy bringing coins and maybe a trinket or two, but no toys. Bummer. But still...exciting that a fairy is going to visit your house! Here is a photo of you covering your loose tooth with your lip - you crack me up, little girl.

For Valentine's Day, you colored a pretty picture for Dad and we made him a cute heart note to go with it. But the highlight of your day was when you discovered that Princess Mouse had a present - with a heart note attached - for you in her cage! This is our third mouse, I think (we caught her outside near the shop). We decided to call her Princess Mouse because we thought that this special name might give Mousie some magical powers...and guess what? It did! Apparently, she can summon her powers and make little Kael presents magically appear in her cage every once in a while (or, does she actually escape and then bring them back? We're not sure...). It'll be interesting to see how often this happens, although not often enough for you, I'm sure. It is SO MUCH FUN to see little life events through your eyes - it makes every day top the one before...

First Loose Tooth

I've been thinking a lot lately about this journal that I started for you so long ago...and haven't kept up with AT ALL. And I've decided that I'm going to try to post something here, no matter how short, at least once a week. It occurred to me that if something happens to me, you'll have nothing written down to look at when you're older to tell you how incredibly much you mean to me. And I can't bear the thought of that. If nothing else, I want you to know that even if I'm not around I'm always nearby watching over you, loving you, protecting you.

And today, you gave me the perfect thing to write about...your FIRST loose tooth! I can't believe that you're barely five years old and already your bottom right middle tooth is loose. This is really freaking your dad and me out a little bit. You're our little girl...surely you're not old enough to loose a tooth? This leads to thoughts of braces, puberty, boyfriends...and things we're just not ready to think about yet. So we have to remind each other that this is just your first loose tooth and it doesn't have anything to do with chasing away your first boyfriend after we catch him trying to steal a kiss from you. That is, hopefully, many, many years down the road.

And you...you, my precious little one, are SO excited about your first loose tooth! You've been really sick the past few days, and after you noticed your loose tooth, you perked right up. The first visit from the Tooth Fairy is incredibly exciting! You're hoping that you'll get enough money to buy yourself a toy...and I think with this first tooth, the Tooth Fairy is quite likely to oblige that request. In fact, I think she's already making plans so she won't be caught unprepared in case the tooth falls out quickly. I'm just curious to see if the amount that she pays for teeth has changed since I was a kid...

ABC's

Wow - you sang your ABC's all the way through today!  You are such a smart little nut.  A couple days ago you were sitting in your high chair and started to sing them, then stopped half way through.  I asked you to sing them again, and your reply was, "I don't want to, Mommy!"  Well, OK.  Then tonight you started singing them in the bath and got ALL THE WAY TO THE END!  You amaze me, little girl.  Oh, and you know almost all of "The Night Before Christmas" by heart....not to mention a few other books.  I think you'll actually be reading soon.  You're such a little person now, with so much personality in that tiny body - I love you SO much!

Kael's Blog

My dearest Kael,

I've been so incredibly lame about keeping track of all of your milestones and the answer finally came to me - A BLOG JUST FOR YOU!  Someday you're going to be asking me the inevitable questions about your early childhood, and now I'll have some of it written down for you.  The joys, frustrations, good days and bad - I'm going to write down as much as I can so you'll have a bit of a window to see into the days that someday, you won't have much memory of.

I love you, my sweet girl...you're the sunshine of each day.
